Non-Markovian Quantum Trajectories Versus Master Equations: Finite Temperature Heat Bath

چکیده

Abstract The interrelationship between the non-Markovian stochastic Schrödinger equations and the corresponding non-Markovian master equations is investigated in the finite temperature regimes. We show that the general finite temperature non-Markovian trajectories can be used to derive the corresponding non-Markovian master equations. A simple, yet important solvable example is the well-known damped harmonic oscillator model in which a harmonic oscillator is coupled to a finite temperature reservoir in the rotating wave approximation. The exact convolutionless master equation for the damped harmonic oscillator is obtained by averaging the quantum trajectories relying upon no assumption of coupling strength or time scale. The master equation derived in this way automatically preserves the positivity, Hermiticity and unity.

Quantum Trajectories in Random Environment: the Statistical Model for a Heat Bath

In this article, we derive the stochastic master equations corresponding to the statistical model of a heat bath. These stochastic differential equations are obtained as continuous time limits of discrete models of quantum repeated measurements. Physically, they describe the evolution of a small system in contact with a heat bath undergoing continuous measurement. The equations obtained in the ...

Universality of quantum Brownian motion

Are Markovian master equations for quantum Brownian motion independent of model assumptions used in the derivation and, thus, universal? With the aim of answering this question, we use a random band–matrix model for the system–bath interaction to derive Markovian master equations for the time evolution of one– dimensional quantum systems weakly coupled to a heat bath. We study in detail two sim...

Stochastic thermodynamics, fluctuation theorems and molecular machines.

Stochastic thermodynamics as reviewed here systematically provides a framework for extending the notions of classical thermodynamics such as work, heat and entropy production to the level of individual trajectories of well-defined non-equilibrium ensembles. It applies whenever a non-equilibrium process is still coupled to one (or several) heat bath(s) of constant temperature. Paradigmatic syste...

Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Quantum Field Theory

We first focus in Chapter 2 on infrared effects in finite–temperature quantum field theory. We propose a simple mathematical method (based on the largest–time equation and the Dyson–Schwinger equations) which allows systematic calculations of the change of density in energy/particles in heat–bath during a scattering/decay of external particles within the heat bath. A careful analysis reveals th...

Fourth-order quantum master equation and its Markovian bath limit

Fourth-order quantum master equations ~FQMEs! are derived in both time nonlocal and local forms for a general system Hamiltonian, with new detailed expressions for the fourth-order kernel, where the bath correlation functions are explicitly decoupled from the system superoperators. Further simplifications can be made for the model of linearly coupled harmonic oscillator bath. Consideration of t...
